General Witchfinders began during the Great Covid Plague of the 2020s, when we, Ross<\/u><\/a>, Jon<\/u><\/a> and James<\/u><\/a>, three old friends, kids of the 80s and teens of the 90s (still clinging on to the Gen X moniker as if it\u2019s cool and doesn\u2019t just mean we\u2019re old), decided to record our chats about the strange and spooky world of British horror.<\/p>

The show is our excuse to get together and talk about Hammer and Amicus, Nigel Kneale, M.R. James, The Wicker Man, Ghostwatch, and the many odd corners of British film and television that probably warped us as kids. Each episode drifts between proper discussion, half-remembered trivia, and whatever else pops into our heads. Someone once wrote about us, \"There are some great Hammer and Amicus historical deep-dive podcasts out there, and if those shows are The Pentangle, then this show is The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.\" We\u2019ll take that.<\/p>

Listeners have called the show \"really entertaining and insightful\", \"a fun chat about vintage British horror and sci-fi\", and \"moronic prattle\", and none of them are wrong.<\/p>

In 2024, the British Library Sound Archive contacted us to say they were preserving General Witchfinders as part of the nation\u2019s audio heritage. So somewhere, in the depths of the archive, our laughter over the name Dick Bush now sits alongside the Beatles and Bowie.<\/p>
